Rabbi Samuel Thompson’s Upbringing and Ministry beginnings
Rabbi Samuel Thompson & Sister Sarah Thompson
Rabbi Samuel Thompson was born in Auckland New Zealand, and was born and raised in the Apostolic Oneness Pentecostal Movement.
Rabbi Samuel Thompson’s Grand Father Pastor Burns Thompson Senior and His Father Pastor Lewis Thompson, were founding leaders and members of the United Pentecostal Church International in New Zealand.
Rabbi Samuel Thompson attended Woodlands Park Primary School in Titirangi, Auckland New Zealand, Glen Eden Intermediate, Kelston Boys High School and then Green Bay High School.
In 1986 Rabbi Samuel Thompson Father who was the Pastor of the United Pentecostal Church in Hillsborough, through personal reasons resigned and pulled away from the United Pentecostal Church International (NZ) and went independent.
At the age of fourteen years old Samuel was called upon by family to officiate at many family unveilings, which is a custom among the New Zealand people that after one year of the Passing away of family, a special grave side service would be held and the headstone would be blessed in remembrance of that person whom had passed away.
Samuel attended the “Word of Truth Bible School” for approximately two years, and covered various subjects from Bible Doctrine, Life of Christ, Pastoral Studies, Major and Minor Prophets, Pentecostal History and Samuels Favourite subject was Bible Doctrine.
In 1989 Samuels Father Lewis Thompson met a man by the name of Pastor David Ware, who has remained great friends to this day; in fact we are more like family than friends so to speak.
Pastor David Ware was very instrumental in Samuels training and discipleship, and along with Samuels Father, David Ware and his Father were the ones that really spent time training and nurturing Samuel into the ministry.
David Ware introduced Lewis and Samuel Thompson to what was known then as the “Sacred Name Movement”, and we had a True Name Bible known as “The Sacred Name Bible”.
David Ware, Lewis Thompson, Samuel Thompson, and a few good brothers and Sisters began looking more into the subject of the “Sacred Name” of Yahweh and Yahshua.
As they were all fairly new to this subject and internet facilities back in 1989 were not as advanced as they are today in 2009, they began to teach that Yahweh was the Hebrew Name and Yahshua was the Hebrew Name but continued to use the titles of Lord, God and Jesus, the Revelation of the Name was not fully given at this time.
The Church stayed independent until early 1994, when Pastor Lewis Thompson affiliated to the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World trough the South Pacific District Council which has its Headquarters in Rarotonga Cook Islands.
At the General Conference held in Rarotonga Cook Island in June 1994 Samuel was Ordained into the Ministry as an Elder by the Late Bishop Theophilus Price of San Jose California.
Samuel was the National Youth President of New Zealand for the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World from 1994 through 1996.
Samuel assisted his Father in the running of the local Church and began Aenon Bible College, through the South pacific District Council and graduated in 1997 at a graduation recognition held in Auckland New Zealand.
In 1995 Samuel was elevated to the office of Pastor and was installed as the Pastor of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World in Hillsborough, where he continued as Pastor until late 2002.
Rabbi Samuel Thompson Gets Married
In March 1996 Samuel met his wife Sarah Thompson and were engaged on October 03rd 1996, they married on 10th May 1997.
Samuel and Sarah have four beautiful Children Three Daughters and one Son, Sarah, Josiah, Naomi and Charlotte.
Sarah has been very supportive to Samuel, and has been through the rough as well as the awesome times of the ministry, as the saying “Behind every good man is a good wife” so this is in the case of Sarah who is such a wonderful wife and partner in ministry.
Rabbi Samuel Thompson keeps on moving ahead
In 2001 Samuel pulled out of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, as he did not like the way the movement was heading.
Samuel Affiliated with the United Pentecostal Church of New Zealand.
Samuel was voted in unanimously as the District Presbyter for the Central District of the United Pentecostal Church and was a General Board Member from 2001 to 2003.
Samuel taught in the United Pentecostal Church of New Zealand Bible College for over two years, many graduated from Bible College and many went on to be Ordained or to receive their ministerial licences.
In March 2003 Samuel was invited to speak at the First General Conference of Christ Apostolic Temple, Inc. Fellowship Organization under the leadership of Presiding Bishop Jeremiah Reed in Des Moines Iowa USA.
Samuel felt the leading of the Spirit at this Conference and was elevated to the office of Diocesan Bishop over New Zealand.
Samuel preached on International Television on the Apostolic Way World Wide TV Broadcast, the title of the message was “Something about that Name”.
It was so well liked in India, that Millions from India requested that it be played again over the TV of which it was.
On Samuels return to New Zealand in April 2003 he resigned his positions with the United Pentecostal Church, and led the Organization Christ Apostolic Temple, Inc. Fellowship Organization in New Zealand.
Samuel stayed in touch with the Superintendent Pastor Ringa Hei Hei, and often fellowshipped with them and preached at their conferences and local churches when called upon.
From March 2003 to December 2006 Samuel Ordained Seven Pastors and Licensed many ministers to preach the Gospel, many of these Pastors are still going strong in their ministries today.
December 2005 Samuel is slowly Called back to Israel
In March 2005 Samuel and his family moved from New Zealand, and went to Sydney Australia as the Organization was running well on its own.
Samuel wanted to go across to Australia and establish some churches there as well, with the thought of travelling back to New Zealand when required.
Yahweh had other plans, which ended up turning Samuel and His families whole life and ministry around dramatically.
In December 2005 while at work, one of Samuel’s Colleagues who is Seventh Day Adventist, challenged Samuel at his day of worship.
Samuel being a devout Sunday Pastor, was asked why did he worship on Sunday when Friday Sundown to Saturday Sundown is the day commanded to be kept and set apart for worship which is known as the Sabbath.
Samuels reply was, I am going to go home and get a teaching together to prove to you that Sunday is now the new day of worship and that the Sabbath day is no longer for today.
That was the hardest teaching that he ever had to try and get together.
As Samuel began going through the scriptures, he kept going back to the same scriptures which said “Keep the Sabbath Holy”.
Well a week went by, this was very unusual for this Apostolic Pentecostal Pastor, to have not come up with a great counter attack sermon or teaching, because it did not matter how hard Samuel tried, he still ended up back at the beginning when Yahweh said that the Sabbath was His day of Worship.
So in Samuels replacement theology anger said to Yahweh, if the Sabbath is your day, and I am meant to be keeping it, then you better give me something from the New Testament, or I will not be satisfied that the Sabbath is the day on when I should be worshipping You.
As soon as he had finished praying he went to the scripture which unlocked the door and began to send Samuel on a Major faith paradigm Shift.
That Scripture was that of Mark 2:27-28.
Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath:
Mark 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is master also of the Sabbath.
Then the next scripture that came after that was
Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Master, Master and do not the things which I say?
At that very moment Samuel said to Yahweh,what are you trying to tell me? And He answered me with this next verse of scripture:
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was it, when Samuel read that, he realised that If Yahshua is his Master, and He is the Master of the Sabbath Day, He commanded back in the Torah that we are to keep His Sabbaths Holy, Samuel immediately arose and said that's it.
So from that next Sabbath Samuel began to hold services on Shabbat and no more did he and his fellowship gather together to worship on Sunday.
Samuel then went onto the Internet looking for other Sabbath keepers, and came across a site called Eliyah.com of which he left an add requesting other Sabbath keepers to get in contact with him, as Samuel needed to find other Sabbath believers as well.
In December 2006 Samuel received a telephone call from a man named Jason Jordon, who lived in the same city, when he spoke to Samuel he talked about the Sabbath, the True Name of Yahweh and Yahshua and the Torah etc.
Samuel said to his wife that I hope we haven’t got another crazy person on our hands here.
Jason Jordon came to visit Samuel early one Shabbat morning, at this stage Samuel was not fully into the Nazarene Israelite faith, Samuel had a Pork Roast cooking in the oven, when he asked Jason to come back for service and stay for dinner, he asked what we were cooking and when Samuel said Roast Pork, the offer was kindly refused and now looking back at it now know's the reason.
When Jason turned up,this young man had a beard, a Kippah on his head, wearing these funny blue and white strings from out of the bottom of his shirt which had a big Israeli Flag with the words “I Stand with Israel” on it.
Jason brought in a box of books; he had everything from Menorahs to Shofars, to Jewish prayer books etc, but one particular thing was of interest to Samuel, it was a brown book called the Restoration Scriptures True Name Edition.
Jason leant this Restoration Scriptures to Samuel while he waited for one of his own of which Jason kindly gifted to Samuel, Samuel's prayer is that Yahweh continually bless Jason and his wife and family for their help in assisting him and his family to discover their Hebrew roots.
On his way out the door Jason asked Samuel if he had internet, of course he did, and he recommended a website to me called “You’re Arms to Israel”.
As Samuel began to read the Restoration Scriptures True Name Edition his heart began to weep with joy as he had finally found some sriptures that were what he wanted in every way possible.
Samuel also began looking at the Your Arms to Israel Website, and noticed a place where he could email Rabbi Moshe Yosef Koniuchowsky.
Samuel had many questions to ask him, and expected the correct answers.
Samuel did not expect him to reply back, as many leaders that he has emailed on various occasions never responded to any of his emails.
The very next morning he got an email response from Rabbi Moshe Koniuchowsky answering every question he had from a Hebraic perspective and it lined up with scripture, so to Samuel this was amazing.
Someone who actually answered from scripture and not from what he has been taught at any Bible College.
In February 2007 Samuel affiliated with B’nai Yahshua Synagogues Worldwide under the leadership of Rabbi Moshe Yosef Koniuchowsky and Samuel is very happy affiliated to this day.
Samuel signed up and completed his Rabbinical Training, with a Two Year probation period, and was Ordained as a Rabbi by Rabbi Moshe Koniuchowsky and other Ordained Rabbis at the 3rd annual conference of B’nai Yahshua Synagogues held in Newberry South Carolina USA, in July 2008.
Currently Samuel is serving as Full time Rabbi of B’nai Yahshua Synagogue of Brisbane; Is the Director of Operations for BYSW over Australia and New Zealand, and also run's the Down Under True Name Ministries, with a weekly radio broadcast on the YATI Radio Network.
Rabbi Samuel Thompson, also currently serves on the Beit Dein of B'nai Yahshua Synagogues Worldwide, along side Rabbi Moshe Koniuchowsky, and Rabbi Mattityahu Nolan.
Samuels aim and desire is to see as many people discover their Hebraic Roots of their faith and see both Houses of Israel which has been scattered become one again in Yahweh’s hand.
